Carolina College

"The highest and best type of womanhood"

Carolina College Administration Building

Carolina College, a Methodist college for young women, operated in Maxton, NC, from 1912-1926. The building containing the college's official records burned in 1973. As far as can be determined, Methodist University holds the largest collection of extant materials concerning the institution.

This online exhibit contains access to digital images of a portion of the collection, with a primary focus on scrapbooks and photographs. Other materials, such as college catalogs, yearbooks, and literary annuals, are included to the extent that they support and enhance the photographs and scrapbooks. Materials pertaining to the Carolina College Alumnae Association will be added at a later date.

Our ultimate goal is to create a web site which will be the authoritative source for information about Carolina College and which will contain images and/or transcripts for all of the items in our collection. The scope of this grant-funded project, however, is limited to creating a basic, functional web site which offers documents and images essential to maintaining the memory of Carolina College.
