Captain Nathan Appleton
My dear Captain,
I have your letter of the 7th February this morning and have gone to the Rivoli to secure you a photo, better than a sketch and send it by this mail. If you will look on the blank side of the photo, you will see indicated by blue pencil mark the sport designated for the erection of the Lafayette Monument. I am a member of the Committee to place a memorial tablet for which 1000 dollars has been authorized on this monument or at the grave at Picpus. I asked the Marquis de Lasteyrie on the subject a few days ago. (The Empire State Society (illegible) of American Revolution). I am I should add a member of the Maryland society (illegible) of A.R. and also the "Society in France of the (illegible) American Revolution."
I wish you success in your undertaking and send you cordial greetings.
Very sincerely yours,
Ch. Chaille Long
